Information about Cassop school

The school stands in an elevated position with views across open countryside to the south. Immediately to the north of the school is Hilltop Farm and dairy cattle are our only immediate neighbours!

Beyond this is Cassop Vale, a site of special scientific interest and a National Nature Reserve.

The school is strongly involved in Environmental Education and has been closely linked to this nature reserve. In 1998, the school was the winner of the Tetrapak Award for Environmental teaching in Primary Schools.

The school field contains extensive, well-established areas, small experimental garden plots, a "secret garden" complete with a story tellers chair and at least thirty different species of tree, all planted by our pupils.

The field recently won an award from the Environmental Department of Durham County Council.

We aim, at Cassop School, to work as a team. This team includes all staff, teaching ands non-teaching, governors and a considerable number of people who help the school.

There is enormous loyalty to the school on the part of this team, a vast amount of experience and a determination to do the best for our children.

The result is an excellent atmosphere of serious work and real enthusiasm.
